Jonathan Gibbs

Jonathan Gibbs is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at City, University of London, within the School of Communication and Creativity. He previously served as Programme Director for BA and MA Creative Writing at St Mary's University, Twickenham. His academic and creative work bridges fiction, literary criticism, and pedagogy.

The articles span book reviews and critical essays on authors such as Don DeLillo, Maylis de Kerangal, Tessa Hadley, and Jules Verne. The work demonstrates a strong trend in analyzing narrative technique, intermediality, and the social and political dimensions of literature, particularly in the context of pandemic writing, parenting narratives, and artistic representation.

Jonathan Gibbs has made significant contributions as an educator, literary critic, and curator. He has taught at the MA and BA levels and led program development. He is a prolific reviewer for the Times Literary Supplement and other major publications. He curates A Personal Anthology, a major online project featuring over 200 guest editors and 2,700 story recommendations, and contributes to Creative Digest, a departmental Substack. He has also been a judge for literary prizes and featured on Radio 4 and literary podcasts.

He is the curator of the influential online short fiction project A Personal Anthology and contributes to the Creative Digest Substack, both serving as key platforms for the dissemination of literary knowledge and community engagement within the School of Communication and Creativity.
