Jonathan Fenderson

Jonathan Fenderson is an Associate Professor in the Department of African and African American Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. He is on sabbatical during Fall/Spring 2024-2025. He holds a PhD from the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies at the University of Massachusetts. His research focuses on intellectual history, social movements, and transnational links between Africa and the Diaspora.

His teaching emphasizes radical Black women's activism, international dimensions of Black Power movements, and Black political thought. Courses include "Feminist Fire: Radical Black Women in the 20th Century" and "International Dimensions of the Black Power Movement."

His scholarship includes a monograph published by University of Illinois Press (2019) and peer-reviewed articles in leading journals like the Journal of African American History and Race & Class. He serves as Associate Editor of The Black Scholar.
