Jonathan Bridge

Dr. Jonathan Bridge is an Associate Professor in Environmental Geoscience at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the School of Engineering and Built Environment and the Social and Economic Research Institute. He holds dual fellowships: FRGS (Royal Geographical Society) and FHEA (Higher Education Academy).

His academic journey includes an MSci in Planetary Sciences (UCL), an MSc in Environmental Sciences (Birkbeck, University of London), and a PhD in Environmental Engineering (University of Sheffield). Post-PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Kroto Research Institute and later held lectureships at the University of Liverpool and Sheffield Hallam University.

Research Focus: Dr. Bridge specializes in environmental contaminants, hydrology, and climate-environment interactions. Key areas include:

• Contaminant transport in soils and porous media
• Environmental radioactivity and nuclear waste management
• Natural flood management and catchment modeling
• Glacier dynamics and supraglacial processes
• Soil surveys in conflict-affected regions (e.g., Syria)

Collaborations: He works with organizations such as Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust, the Environment Agency, and the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA). His research integrates hydro-sociology and art-based co-design in landscape decision-making.

Teaching: He leads courses in water resources, natural hazards, and environmental management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Courses include the MSc Environmental Management program, where he focuses on critical thinking and practical problem-solving.
