John Turner is a Professor and Head of the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University. He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford and a BSc from the University of Bristol. His roles include Dean of Postgraduate Research, Head of School, and Senior Lecturer. Turner is a Trustee of the Chagos Conservation Trust and the Sea Watch Foundation, and a member of DEFRA's Darwin Plus Advisory Group.
Education:
- Postgraduate: DPhil in 'Ecology of Temperate Symbiotic Anthozoa', University of Oxford (1981–1985)
- Undergraduate: BSc Joint Honours Botany and Zoology, University of Bristol (1979–1981)
Research Interests: Turner's work focuses on coral reef ecosystems, marine protected areas (MPAs), and environmental impact assessments. He collaborates with international organizations to address marine conservation in UK Overseas Territories like the Chagos Archipelago and Cayman Islands. Key themes include reef resilience, climate change impacts, and sustainable management of marine biodiversity.
