John T. Gasper is an Associate Teaching Professor of Economics and Director of Learning Evaluation and Success at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business. He holds a PhD in Political Economy from CMU, alongside MS and BS degrees in Social & Decision Sciences and Logic & Computation/Philosophy. His interdisciplinary research focuses on political economy, game theory, and quantitative analysis, with emphases on disaster relief accountability, media bias, and electoral dynamics. Recent work examines how political actors respond to natural disasters and the market-driven origins of media bias.
Teaching responsibilities span undergraduate and executive education courses including Behavioral Economics, Data Science, and Decision Analysis. He has received prestigious teaching awards, including the Richard M. Cyert Teaching Award (2021) and Meritorious Teaching Award (2017). Active in university governance, he served as Assistant Dean of Strategic Initiatives (2019–2021) and chairs committees on curriculum design and inclusive pedagogy.
