John Sanders is a Professor of Religious Studies at Hendrix College. He holds a Th.D. from the University of South Africa (1996), M.A. from Wartburg Theological Seminary (1987), and B.A. from Trinity College (1979). His research integrates cognitive linguistics with theology, exploring how human conceptual frameworks shape religious thought. He focuses on divine providence, concepts of God, and evangelical understandings of hell. Recent projects apply cognitive linguistics to biblical and theological topics, emphasizing embodiment in moral reasoning. Sanders has published widely on open theism and interfaith salvation debates, including his forthcoming book *Theology in the Flesh* (2016). His teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, blending history, philosophy, and biblical studies to foster critical engagement with diverse religious perspectives.
