John Reade

Dr. John Reade is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Agriculture and Environment at Harper Adams University. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from Swansea University and a PhD from Swansea and Aberystwyth Universities, researching nitrogen fixation proteins. His career includes post-doctoral research at Nottingham Trent University on herbicide resistance in black-grass and roles as Senior Tutor, Associate Head of Department, and Course Manager for Zoology courses.

Research focuses on weed biology, invasive species, agroecology, herbicide resistance, and novel non-chemical controls like allelopathy and lasers. He also explores stress in sports turf and alternative crop uses. Professional memberships include the Royal Society of Biology (Fellow) and European Weed Research Society.

Teaching spans crop production, weed management (BSc/MSc levels), and BASIS/EFMA courses. He co-authored a book and book chapters and leads the SSFF Future Farmer programme. Awards include Fellowship from the Royal Society of Biology.
