John Rash is an Assistant Professor of Film Production and Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi. He holds an M.F.A. in Experimental and Documentary Arts from Duke University. His work bridges documentary traditions with avant-garde practices, focusing on cultural outsiders, environmental themes, and Southern subcultures. As founder/curator of the Southern Punk Archive, he preserves DIY punk and hardcore music histories across the American South.
Research interests include film production, expanded cinema, and lens-based media. His creative work has been exhibited globally in festivals, galleries, and museums. He received the 2018 Soul of Southern Film Award from Indie Memphis Film Festival.
Teaching and research emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to documentary expression and Southern cultural studies. His office is located in SOC B404.
