John Mingoia

Dr. John Mingoia is an Online Lecturer in the Psychology programs at UniSA Online, specializing in delivering high-quality online education and supervising Honours and postgraduate research students. He holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of South Australia (2018), focusing on cancer prevention through social media interventions targeting skin cancer risk factors in young adults. His research interests include body image, health promotion, and sociocultural pressures related to appearance modification, particularly via social media. He is affiliated with the Behaviour-Brain-Body Research Centre and has collaborated with institutions like Flinders University and Cancer Council South Australia.

Dr. Mingoia’s research has been published in top-tier journals, including Computers in Human Behavior and Body Image, and has been featured in media across television, radio, and print. His work has received recognition such as the UniSA Medal (2013), Chancellor’s Commendations (2012–2014), and inclusion in The Australian’s top researchers under 10 years into their career (2020). He is also a member of the UniSA Early Career Researcher Academy (2022) and has secured grants for projects on student well-being and academic performance.

His research explores the interplay between social media use, body image, and health behaviors, with recent studies examining dating app dynamics, online stressors in higher education, and interventions targeting cosmetic surgery attitudes. Dr. Mingoia’s contributions span academic publishing, conference presentations, and public engagement, reflecting a commitment to both scholarly rigor and real-world impact.
