Bec Perry

Dr. Bec Perry is the Program Director of Medical Sonography at UniSA Allied Health & Human Performance, University of South Australia, where she is an active research supervisor and faculty member. Her work is centered on medical sonography, echocardiography, and cardiovascular health across diverse populations including athletes, women at cardiovascular risk, and cancer patients.

Her research interests include:

• Cardiovascular imaging and echocardiography
• Global longitudinal strain (GLS) as a prognostic marker
• Sonography practice and scan time optimization
• AI and automation in ultrasound
• Cardiac adaptations in elite athletes and patients undergoing cancer therapy

Dr. Perry's recent publications (2023–2025) reveal a strong focus on using echocardiography to assess subclinical myocardial injury, the impact of exercise on cardiac function, and improving sonographer workflow. Her earlier work (2011, 2019) at Flinders University established her expertise in advanced cardiac imaging for rare conditions like Anderson-Fabry disease and infiltrative cardiomyopathies.

She has received research support from the Australasian Sonographers Association and the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. Her work has been published in high-impact journals such as JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging, European Journal of Sport Science, and Heart, Lung and Circulation.
