John Leonard

Dr. John Leonard serves as Assistant Director of Marching and Athletic Bands and Lecturer at the University of Minnesota School of Music. He holds a DMA in Wind Conducting from the University of Kansas, MM degrees from Western Michigan University and University of Massachusetts–Amherst, and a BM in Music Education from UMass Amherst.

His professional background includes interim positions at Western Michigan University and Northeastern University. An active arranger for university marching bands, he teaches at the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy as Lead Clinician and Staff Manager.

Honors include membership in Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Pi Kappa Lambda, and the UMass Marching Band Hall of Fame.
