John Landers is a Senior Research Fellow at Hertford College, University of Oxford. He holds a BA in Human Sciences from Hertford College (1972-1975) and conducted graduate work in historical demography at the University of Cambridge. Previously, he served as a Lecturer in Biological Anthropology at University College London and later as a University Lecturer in Historical Demography and Fellow of All Souls College. From 2005 to 2011, he was Principal of Hertford College.
His research focuses on mortality dynamics in pre-modern societies, particularly the interplay between infectious diseases, urbanization, and socio-economic factors.
