Dr. John Doering-White is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed in Anthropology and Social Work at the University of South Carolina. His ethnographic research examines humanitarian responses to forced migration, with field work focused on Central American migration through Mexico. Current projects analyze climate-related displacement and systems of care for unaccompanied minors.
Research employs participatory methods including documentary film production ('Border South') to explore aid worker experiences and migrant resilience. His work has received funding from Wenner-Gren Foundation, Gerda Henkel Stiftung, and Lutheran Immigrant and Refugee Service.
Teaching includes courses on international social work, Latin American cultures, and ethics. He co-directs the Migration Scholars Working Group and serves on the executive team for Scholars Across Anthropology and Social Work.
