Foroogh Farhang is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Vermont specializing in migration, border studies, and Middle Eastern anthropology. She holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Northwestern University and an MA in Gender Studies from Central European University.
Her research examines:
- Border governance and forced migration in Lebanon
- Syrian refugee communities and burial practices
- Transnational care networks
- Palestinian refugee contexts
Supported by grants from the NSF, Wenner-Gren Foundation, and Max Weber Foundation, her ethnographic work investigates how displaced communities develop alternative social structures beyond formal humanitarian frameworks.
