Dr. John Carr is a Professor of Urban and Legal Geography at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), affiliated with the Department of Geography within the School of Arts, Design & Architecture. He holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Washington and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law. Prior to academia, he practiced law in civil rights and complex litigation for over a decade.
His research focuses on interdisciplinary intersections between urban geography, law, planning, and environmental sustainability. Key areas include urban trauma and built environments, legal geography, spatial justice, and geospatial data privacy. He employs participatory methodologies and has supervised numerous PhD students across disciplines, including urban planning, law, and environmental studies.
