Joanne Lewis

Joanne Lewis is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). She holds a PhD from UTS (2011–2013) and has over 30 years of nursing experience, specializing in palliative care for socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. As Director of Health Programs at UTS, she coordinates courses in aged care, palliative care, and Indigenous health. Her research focuses on social determinants of health, equity in healthcare access, and vulnerable populations.

Her research explores palliative care policy, social capital, and health inequities, with publications in Death Studies, BMC Palliative Care, and others. She has led a grant project addressing healthcare for older adults (SPHERE Age and Ageing Clinical Academic Group, 2018–2020).

Joanne actively reviews for journals such as Journal of Clinical Nursing and holds memberships in the Australian College of Nursing and Palliative Care Network. She advocates for person-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare systems.
