Joan Arbery

Joan Arbery is a Lecturer at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where she has taught for ten years. She holds a BA in English (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Dallas (2002) and a PhD in Literature (specializing in Irish Studies and French) from the University of Notre Dame (2010). During her PhD, she spent a year in Dublin on a research fellowship. Her teaching focuses on first-year students, particularly in SMU's Honors DISC program, and extends to roles like tutoring in the ALEC and Scholars Den. She also teaches at the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture during summers, supporting secondary educators.
