April Langley is an Associate Professor in the Department of African American Studies at the University of South Carolina's McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century African American and American literature and theory.

Her publications appear in journals such as The Western Journal of Black Studies, a/b: Autobiography Studies, and Legacy. She authored The Black Aesthetic Unbound (Ohio State University Press) and is working on Looking for Phillis, a study of Senegambian influences on Phillis Wheatley's poetry.
