About
Professor Jinjun Liu is a Professor of Chemistry and Adjunct Professor of Physics at the University of Louisville (UofL). His research focuses on spectroscopic studies of gas-phase molecules and condensed-phase materials using high-resolution and ultrafast laser systems. Key areas include reactive chemical intermediates, Jahn-Teller effects, and solar cell material characterization. He leads the Liu Research Group and the Ultrafast Laser Facility at the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research.
Education: B.S. in Chemistry from East China Normal University (1999), followed by postgraduate research at the State Key Laboratory in Shanghai (1999-2001). Ph.D. in Chemistry from The Ohio State University (2007), with postdoctoral fellowships at ETH Zurich (2007-2010) and The Ohio State University (2010-2011).
Research interests span molecular spectroscopy, quantum chemistry, and renewable energy materials. His group investigates vibrational-electronic interactions and ultrafast processes in solar materials. Recent work includes studies on perovskite nanostructures, photocatalytic polymers, and radical intermediates.
Notable awards include the 2018 Fundamental Physics Innovation Award (Moore Foundation/APS), 2017 Flygare Award (ISMS), and 2015 NSF CAREER Award. His publications explore laser spectroscopy techniques, molecular dynamics, and energy-related materials.
Grants and advising: Advises on projects related to molecular spectroscopy and renewable energy. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams at UofL and the Conn Center.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Ultrafast Laser Facility and the Liu Research Group, which operate at the intersection of spectroscopy and renewable energy science.
