Julia A. Weinstein

Professor Julia A. Weinstein is a Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Sheffield's School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. She leads the Light-Matter Interactions Research Cluster, the Lord Porter Laser Laboratory, and the Physical Chemistry Teaching Theme. Her career includes postdoctoral work at the University of Nottingham (2000) and roles as an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow (2004). She earned a Diploma in Chemistry (1990) and PhD (1994) from Moscow Lomonosov State University, later joining its faculty before moving to the UK.

Her research focuses on ultrafast dynamics of electron/energy transfer, solar energy conversion, and photocatalytic systems. Techniques include ultrafast laser spectroscopy, time-resolved IR, and computational modeling. Collaborations span global institutions like the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and LaserLab Europe.

Teaching includes undergraduate courses on Mathematics for Chemists and Chemical Kinetics, and postgraduate modules on Photochemistry and Molecular Photonics. Awards include the RSC Chemical Dynamics Award (2017) and Lomonosov Award (2003).

Active in lab leadership, she oversees the Lord Porter Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory and contributes to UK XFEL initiatives. Current research explores charge-separated states in molecular systems and their applications in renewable energy and imaging technologies.
