Jim Renegar is a Professor at Cornell University's School of Operations Research and Information Engineering, affiliated with the institution since 1987. He earned his PhD in Mathematics from UC Berkeley under the guidance of Steve Smale.
Research interests include:
- Interior-point methods for convex optimization
- Quantifier elimination methods in the first-order theory of the reals
- Condition numbers in conic optimization
- Hyperbolic programming
- First-order methods for convex conic optimization
Professional Contributions
- Co-founded the Society for Foundations of Computational Mathematics in 1995
- Current associate editor for the Society's journal
- Participated in research programs as Visiting Scientist, including Geometry of Polynomials (Spring 2019) and Bridging Continuous and Discrete Optimization (Fall 2017)
