About
Chee Khian Sim is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Mathematics & Physics, University of Portsmouth, and a member of the Centre for Operational Research & Logistics (CORL). He specializes in mathematical optimization and its applications in operational research, with expertise in optimization algorithms, supply chain management, and inventory systems. He holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore (2005), an MSc from the University of Washington (1997), and a BSc from the National University of Singapore (1992).
His research focuses on first and second-order optimization methods, including interior point algorithms for conic optimization and subgradient methods for convex/nonconvex problems. He also investigates supply chain optimization, particularly inventory management strategies. He teaches modules such as Mathematical Models, Quantitative Supply Chain Management, and Logistics Modelling.
Sim has contributed to over 20 research outputs, including articles on convergence analysis of splitting methods, inventory policies, and interior point algorithms. His work has been recognized with a Fellowship (2015). He actively reviews for journals like Optimization Methods and Software and participates in international conferences. He supervises PhD students in mathematical optimization and operational research.
