Jim Lampley is a Professor of the Practice at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Media Studies. He teaches COMM 490: Evolution of Storytelling in American Electronic News Media, examining technological, institutional, and political influences on news storytelling over the past century with emphasis on objective truth.
His research interests center on media evolution, journalistic integrity, and the intersection of technology with news delivery systems. His work analyzes how economic forces and institutional changes have transformed electronic media storytelling.
Lampley received his B.A. in English Literature from UNC Chapel Hill (1971) and completed graduate coursework in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures before launching a 46-year broadcasting career spanning ABC Sports, CBS News, NBC Sports, and HBO where he served as senior reporter for RealSports and hosted boxing/Wimbledon coverage.
