State University of New York at BuffaloAbout
Jessica L. Reynolds, PhD, serves as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo, a position she assumed in 2025. She concurrently holds appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Vice Chair for Faculty Development at the Jacobs School, and Associate Director of Workforce Development at UB’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute since 2018. Dr. Reynolds joined the institution in 1998 and has progressively advanced through multiple leadership roles over her distinguished 27-year career.
Her academic credentials include a PhD in pathology from the University at Buffalo and a bachelor's degree from Alfred University (1998), complemented by several prestigious fellowships. These foundational experiences established her expertise in biomedical research and academic leadership.
Dr. Reynolds' pioneering research in nanomedicine focuses on developing nanotechnology and biological-based delivery vehicles targeting astrocytes, microglial cells, and macrophages—critical cellular components in HIV and neuroAIDS pathogenesis. Her laboratory has created an innovative therapeutic approach combining anti-TB drugs with innate immune system activation to synergistically eradicate pathogens, potentially reducing drug dosage, treatment duration, toxicity, and drug resistance emergence in tuberculosis co-infections.
Her exceptional contributions have earned significant recognition:
- Distinguished Biomedical Alumna Award
- Outstanding Mentorship in Research Award
As an educational leader, Dr. Reynolds has shaped faculty development initiatives across the medical school while maintaining an active research laboratory. Her mentorship excellence—formally acknowledged through awards—demonstrates her commitment to cultivating the next generation of biomedical scientists. The Reynolds Laboratory remains at the forefront of translational nanomedicine, bridging nanotechnology, immunology, and infectious disease therapeutics to address complex health challenges in HIV/TB co-infections.
