Dr Jessica Holtaway is a Lecturer in the Department of Art and Music at Solent University, specializing in politically-engaged artworks and performances. She teaches on the MA Visual Communication course, leading the Digital Media unit, and contributes to various BA programs within the department.
Her research focuses on the intersection of creativity and crisis, with a particular emphasis on micropolitical art interventions and institutional practices. She completed her PhD at Goldsmiths' Department of Visual Cultures, examining radical art strategies.
Recent publications include the book World-Forming and Contemporary Art (2021), the article These radical artworks force you to look in new ways (2020), and co-editing artWORK: Art, Labour and Activism (2017). Her work integrates philosophy, particularly Jean-Luc Nancy's theories, into contemporary art analysis.
