Jess Rollason is a Lecturer in Biomolecular Sciences at Coventry University and currently serves as Associate Head of School - Recruitment and Marketing within the CEES School of Science. Her academic career includes roles at Aston University (2004–2010) during her PhD and post-doctoral research. She has contributed to science communication through initiatives like the Wellcome Trust-funded 'Microbiology in Schools' program and an 8-part BBC3 series, Grime Scene Investigation (2006).
Her research focuses on clinical and molecular microbiology, particularly the role of Propionibacterium acnes in lower back pain and discitis. Collaborations include Coventry University, Aston University, University Hospital Birmingham, and international partners. Key projects investigate bacterial virulence mechanisms, antimicrobial resistance, and environmental microbiology (e.g., soil pollutant effects). She secured grants from the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) and the Society for Applied Microbiology (SAM) for student placements.
Recent publications highlight her work on Propionibacterium acnes in discitis, natural antimicrobial agents, and bacterial biofilms.
