Jes Broeng is a Professor and Director of DTU Entrepreneurship at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He holds a Ph.D. from DTU and has extensive expertise in photonics, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer. He has co-founded six companies, including Crystal Fibre (now NKT Photonics) and OptoCeutics, and serves on multiple national and international advisory boards.
His research spans photonic crystal fibers, high-power fiber lasers, and biomedical applications of light therapy. He has over 250 publications (h-index 50) and 22 patents. Notable awards include the European Optics Prize (1999) and DTU’s Innovation Award (2016). He is a SPIE Fellow and member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences.
Broeng collaborates with institutions like UC Berkeley’s Sutardja Center and advises the European Innovation Council. He leads the national 'Open Entrepreneurship' initiative to improve tech transfer models between Danish universities. His work intersects photonics innovation, entrepreneurship education, and policy.
