Jeremy L. Jones

Jeremy L. Jones is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at the College of the Holy Cross. He serves as Director of Africana Studies and specializes in political and economic anthropology, African studies, the informal economy, and the anthropology of development. His research focuses on youth and masculinity, time and temporality, and strategies for economic survival in extreme conditions.

• Education: Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago (2012).

Dr. Jones' work explores the intersection of economic action and everyday life, particularly in urban Zimbabwe. He has conducted extensive fieldwork on formally unemployed youth in Harare, examining their responses to hyperinflation and systemic economic collapse. His teaching includes courses on the anthropology of contemporary Africa, the informal economy, and the anthropological perspective.

His recent publications span topics including Zimbabwe's hyperinflationary crisis, the rise of informal economies, and youth-driven social transformations. Articles from 2008-2023 reflect his long-term engagement with Zimbabwean urban studies, analyzing market dynamics, social displacement, and cultural practices in contexts of economic collapse.
