Jeremy Hall

Professor Jeremy Hall is the Hodge Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Cardiff University, where he also serves as Director of the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neuroscience and Co-Director of the Neuroscience and Mental Health Innovation Institute. He is an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist and a leading figure in translational psychiatric neuroscience.

His research centers on the interplay between genetic and environmental risk factors in serious mental illness, particularly how genetic vulnerabilities affect learning processes in the brain. His work spans human and laboratory studies, with a strong focus on neurodevelopmental disorders such as schizophrenia and autism, especially in the context of copy number variants (CNVs).

His recent publications reveal a consistent focus on genetic risk mechanisms, synaptic plasticity, brain circuitry, and behavioral phenotypes. He frequently employs animal models (e.g., Cacna1c, Cyfip1, Dlg2) and human neuroimaging to explore the neural basis of psychiatric symptoms.
