Jenny Shaw is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Alabama, holding a PhD from New York University (2009). Her research examines race, slavery, and colonial dynamics in the Atlantic World, with specific focus on Caribbean history and gender studies.
Research Focus: Dr. Shaw investigates racial hierarchies, transatlantic family networks, and cultural exchanges in early modern Caribbean and British imperial contexts. Current projects include a book exploring gender and spectacle in Britain's 18th-century empire through the lives of a Duchess and a formerly enslaved boy.
Teaching: Courses include HY 103 (American Civilization to 1865), HY 368 (Caribbean History), and graduate seminars on comparative slavery and Atlantic history.
