Jenny Keane

Jenny Keane is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art & Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Dr. Keane's research centers on the concept of 'horrific' through spatio-temporal installations and performative practices. She critically examines negative representations of the 'monstrous' female body by analyzing narratives from horror films, myths, legends, and ghost stories. Her work investigates the dichotomy between fear and desire, exploring its relationship to language and the female body. Keane employs pauses (drawings) and loops (videos) to challenge linear narrative constructions in her artistic practice.

Her scholarly contribution focuses on redefining the monstrous-feminine concept, moving beyond binary representations to transform passive and destructive portrayals of the female body in horror into active and positive representations of female sexuality. This research sits at the intersection of visual culture, gender studies, and contemporary art theory.
