Jennifer Preston is a Full Professor and Chair of the Counseling Department at Saybrook University, also serving as PhD CES Program Coordinator. Her academic journey includes a B.S. in Psychology from Whittier College (1994), an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Avila College (1997), and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Oregon State University (2006).
Her clinical work focused on marginalized populations, including women and children affected by violence/trauma, and later transitioned to academia. Key research areas include addictions treatment for women, LGBTQ+ issues (ally development, homeless youth), women’s mentoring, and psychedelic integration using feminist/critical theory frameworks. She employs non-traditional qualitative methodologies.
Professional affiliations include the American Counseling Association (ACA), Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), and Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Issues in Counseling (ALGBTIC). Teaching emphases span multicultural counseling, research methods, and practicum supervision. Current interests include expanding psychedelic integration practice certifications.
