Jennifer Markides

Dr. Jennifer Markides, a Métis scholar and member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, is an Assistant Professor in Curriculum and Learning at the Werklund School of Education and the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary. She holds the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Youth Wellbeing and Education and is a Child Health and Wellness Researcher at the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute. Her work centers on systemic change in Indigenous education through community-engaged partnerships, Indigenous methodologies, and arts-based approaches.

Her research explores Indigenous youth wellbeing, decolonizing education, and relational pedagogies. Her publications emphasize community collaboration, Métis storytelling, and anti-colonial frameworks.

Scientific awards include the Canadian Association of Curriculum Studies Outstanding Dissertation Award (2021), Indigenous Inquiries Circle Emerging Voices Award (2021), and multiple SSHRC and University of Calgary fellowships. She serves as series editor of the Community Wisdom series with DIO Press.
