Christy Thomas, EdD, is the Dean of the School of Education and Associate Professor of Education at Ambrose University. She concurrently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary. Her academic journey includes a BEd from the University of Calgary, MEd from the University of Alberta, and EdD from the University of Calgary (2016), with a dissertation focused on professional learning leadership in schools.
Her research emphasizes collaborative leadership approaches, professional learning, and teaching methodologies, employing mixed methods, design-based research, and action research. Notable projects include SSHRC-funded studies on online pedagogies and professional collaboration (2021-2023), Alberta Education grants for leadership development initiatives, and pandemic-era writing resilience projects. She has led workshops on instructional design and online pedagogies at Ambrose University and the University of Calgary’s Taylor Institute.
Dr. Thomas teaches courses in leadership (CDPD 500/600) and curriculum/learning (ELQS 001). Her work bridges theory and practice, advocating for communities of practice that foster flourishing in educational contexts. Recent publications address indigenization in education, pandemic adaptations, and decolonization of assessment practices.
