Dr. Jennifer Lynn serves as a tenured Full Professor in the Department of History within Montana State University Billings' College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS), where she has been a faculty member since 2011. She concurrently holds the position of co-director for the Women’s and Gender Studies Center, demonstrating significant institutional leadership.
Her academic background includes a Ph.D. in Modern German History from UNC Chapel Hill and distinction as a graduate of Montana State University Billings. Dr. Lynn's research specializes in Weimar Republic-era Germany with particular focus on gender representation in media and social activism.
Current scholarly work examines abortion legalization movements in Weimar Germany and transnational activist networks centered on Agnes Smedley. Her forthcoming monograph Contested Femininities: Representations of Modern Women in the German Illustrated Press, 1920–1960 (Berghahn Books, March 2024) establishes her expertise in historical media analysis and women's studies.
She received the 2024 Dr. Tasneem Khaleel Award for Mentoring Young Female Professionals in recognition of her dedicated guidance to new women faculty and students through MSUB's women’s faculty caucus.
Dr. Lynn actively extends her advocacy beyond campus as a mentor for new women faculty and through community engagement with Planned Parenthood Montana and the YWCA, focusing on women's rights and professional development initiatives.
