Jennifer H. Arlen is the Norma Z. Paige Professor of Law at New York University School of Law, serving as Director of the Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement and the Center for Law, Economics and Organization. She holds a PhD in Economics (NYU, 1992), JD (NYU, 1986), and BA in Economics (Harvard, 1982). Her research focuses on corporate liability, behavioral law and economics, and medical malpractice. She has authored books and articles in top journals like the Rand Journal of Economics and Yale Law Journal.
Dr. Arlen co-founded the Society for Empirical Legal Studies (SELS) and served as its president. She has also led the American Law and Economics Association and contributed to the American Law Institute’s Principles of Compliance and Enforcement. Her teaching includes courses on business crime, corporate law, and compliance.
Awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Compliance.Net (2025) and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of St. Gallen (2021), she has held visiting positions at Caltech, Harvard, and Yale. Her work emphasizes deterrence strategies, corporate governance, and the intersection of law, economics, and psychology.
Her research programs address cybersecurity oversight, compliance monitors, and policy reforms. She advises on corporate investigations, white-collar crime, and regulatory enforcement, combining empirical and theoretical approaches to legal challenges.
