About
Jennifer Broderick serves as Assistant Professor of Biology in the Department of Biological Sciences at Thiel College, where she integrates research into classroom instruction through the Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program.
Her doctoral training at Duquesne University focused on felid genomics under the Janecka Lab, specifically investigating local adaptations in bobcats and Canada lynx. This foundation informs her current teaching and research approach.
Dr. Broderick's scholarly work centers on genomic analysis and evolutionary adaptations, with active contributions to phage genomics education. She teaches core courses including Introductory Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, medical terminology, and conservation genomics, while leading bioinformatics-focused SEA-PHAGES sections using Microbacterium foliorum as host organisms.
She has instructed Genetics (BIO 322) as primary instructor in Spring 2023 and 2025 (12-24 students per section), and served as additional instructor in Spring 2024. Her course structure involves 3-5.5 weekly contact hours with dedicated bioinformatics components.
