Jeffrey Veidlinger

Jeffrey Veidlinger is the Joseph Brodsky Collegiate Professor of History and Judaic Studies at the University of Michigan, where he directs the Frankel Center for Judaic Studies. An expert in modern Russian and Eastern European Jewish history, he was recognized as a 'Top Young Historian' by the History News Network. His affiliations include the Center for Russian, East European, & Eurasian Studies (CREES) and the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia.

Education: PhD in History from Georgetown University (1998).

Research explores Jewish public culture in imperial Russia, Soviet Yiddish theater, small-town Jewish life in Ukraine, and Jewish migration patterns. Current work examines population displacement and border crossings through extensive oral history methodologies.

Publications focus on Jewish cultural resilience amid political upheavals, particularly analyzing violence dynamics in Eastern Europe and Holocaust antecedents. His scholarship demonstrates consistent thematic focus on minority survival strategies under authoritarian regimes.
