Jeffrey Perry is the Manship Professor of Music Theory at Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Music. He has been at LSU since 1994, previously teaching at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research focuses on 20th-century music, American experimentalism, Schubert, Schenkerian analysis, and music-text relations. He holds a B.A. from Williams College, an M.F.A. from California Institute of the Arts, and a Ph.D. from Princeton University.
Dr. Perry has served as editor of Music Theory Online, President of the South Central Society for Music Theory (SCSMT), and chair of LSU’s Faculty Senate Courses and Curriculum Committee. He is an active composer, with performances at institutions like LSU, Ohio State University, and the University of Connecticut.
His recent work explores John Cage’s engagements with Erik Satie and the prepared piano, as well as analyses of Mel Powell’s string quartets. Perry also teaches in LSU’s Ogden Honors College and the Comparative Literature program.
