Jeffrey L Webb

Jeffrey L Webb is a Professor of Music and Department Head at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ), where he has taught since 2001. He specializes in Music Theory, Western Art Music, Jazz, and Popular Music, and leads the Pitt-Johnstown Choral Ensembles. Additionally, he has served as Artistic Director of the Blair Concert Chorale (2004-2013) and directs the Johnstown Symphony Chorus. His work includes compositions like Oh! What a Beautiful City! and research on vocal health, choral conducting, and William Grant Still’s music.

Research interests focus on voice science, vocal health, choral conducting techniques, and the music of William Grant Still. His work bridges academic musicology with practical performance, emphasizing technology’s role in music education through grants like the Mellon Technology Research Grant (2002). Webb is also an active musical director, accompanist, and founder of the band Jeff Webb and the Delectable Sound.

Grants/Projects include the Mellon-funded exploration of MIDI technology in teaching. His articles in Music Educators Journal and Choral Journal highlight pedagogical innovations and historical analyses of African-American spirituals.
