University of Massachusetts Chan Medical SchoolAbout
Jeffrey Driban is Professor in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at UMass Chan Medical School's T.H. Chan School of Medicine. His NIH-funded research explores novel biomarkers and imaging techniques to improve osteoarthritis clinical trials, with emphasis on rapid progression phenotypes and preventive interventions. Driban earned his Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Temple University and completed postdoctoral training in Rheumatology at Tufts Medical Center.
Research focuses on osteoarthritis pathophysiology across multiple joints, utilizing the Osteoarthritis Initiative dataset to identify risk factors and progression markers. Current projects investigate metabolic influences on joint degeneration, machine learning prediction models, and biomechanical contributors to post-traumatic osteoarthritis.
Driban's publications demonstrate consistent innovation in quantitative imaging analysis, particularly MRI-based assessment of cartilage integrity, bone marrow lesions, and meniscal pathology. Methodological advances include radiomic feature extraction, end-stage osteoarthritis definitions, and patient stratification frameworks.
He chairs Osteoarthritis Action Alliance task groups developing prevention guidelines for ACL injuries and serves on editorial boards for leading rheumatology journals. Driban mentors graduate students through the Clinical and Population Health Research Program and teaches epidemiology courses.
