Jeffrey D. Hartgerink

Professor of Chemistry and Bioengineering at Rice University with appointments in Chemistry and Bioengineering departments. Research develops peptide-based biomaterials for tissue regeneration, drug delivery, and immunotherapy applications. Current focus includes nanofibrous hydrogels for vaccine adjuvants and collagen-mimetic scaffolds.

Research innovations: pH-responsive antibody delivery systems, supramolecular assembly of collagen peptides, and biomaterial strategies for vascularized tissue engineering. Leads NIH-funded projects on immunomodulatory biomaterials.

Awards: Presidential Mentoring Award (2024), Provost's Award for Outstanding Doctoral Advisor (2023), and Welch Foundation funding for nanostructured assemblies research.
