Professor Jeffrey Chwieroth is the Head of the Department of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), holding the title of Professor of International Relations. His research focuses on the political economy of money and finance, particularly the consequences of financial crises and financialization, and the intersection of climate-related risks with financial stability and wealth. He is affiliated with the Systemic Risk Centre, the Grantham Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, and the Phelan United States Centre at LSE.
His key research areas include international financial governance, the political impacts of banking crises, and the evolving role of middle-class wealth expectations in shaping policy responses. His award-winning book The Wealth Effect (2019) examines how middle-class wealth protection demands influence banking crisis policies, winning the 2021 ISA IPE Best Book Award and the 2020 Stein Rokkan Prize. His work has been supported by grants from the British Academy, Economic and Social Research Council, and others.
