Jeffrey Benson

Jeffrey Benson serves as the Charlene Archibeque Endowed Professor of Choral Music and Director of Choral Activities at San José State University's School of Music (College of Humanities and the Arts), and Artistic Director of Peninsula Cantare in Palo Alto, CA. His ensembles are acclaimed by The Washington Post for "exquisite blend, subtlety of phrasing, confident musicianship and fully supported tone."

His educational background includes:

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from New York University
• Master’s degree in Choral Conducting/Music Education from The Florida State University
• Doctorate in Choral Conducting/Music Education from The Florida State University

Dr. Benson is an active conductor and composer with international engagements including Carnegie Hall, the Washington National Cathedral, and collaborations with artists like the Rolling Stones, Josh Groban, and Andrea Bocelli. His published works feature in the Jeffrey Benson Choral Series (Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Gentry Publications) and under the Charlene Archibeque Choral Series (Colla Voce, Santa Barbara).

He directs the SJSU Choraliers and Peninsula Cantare, leading innovative programming from classical masterworks to contemporary collaborations, and serves on the National Advocacy Committee for the American Choral Directors Association.
