Jeffery Zook serves as Adjunct Professor of Flute in Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance, where he has taught for 17 years while maintaining an active performance career. Recently retired from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra after 30 years as principal flutist and piccoloist, he co-founded the CanAmerican Flute Symposium and Flute Competition.
His academic background includes degrees from the University of Michigan and London's Royal Academy of Music, where he earned the prestigious Recitalists’ Diploma under renowned pedagogues William Bennett, Trevor Wye, and Judith Bentley.
Zook specializes in orchestral and solo flute performance, chamber music collaboration, and music education with emphasis on piccolo repertoire. His expertise spans classical interpretation, contemporary techniques, and cross-disciplinary artistic projects that bridge Western classical traditions with global musical influences.
His distinguished recognition includes:
- Recitalists’ Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music
- National Flute Association’s Newly Published Music Award (2023) for "Telemann for Two Flutes"
As an educator, Zook mentors students across multiple institutions including the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University while leading professional development through the Southeast Michigan Flute Association. His chamber ensemble Concerts in the Barn at Applewood has produced internationally broadcast performances, including a nationally televised tour of Morocco.
He operates The Cambridge Conservatory—a creative residency space in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan—hosting masterclasses, recitals, and community music events that extend his pedagogical impact beyond traditional academic settings.
