Jeanne VanBriesen is the Duquesne Light Company Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, affiliated with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Engineering and Public Policy. She serves as director of the Center for Water Quality in Urban Environmental Systems (Water QUEST) and focuses on environmental systems, urban water sustainability, and the energy-water nexus.

VanBriesen has supervised 21 Ph.D. students and 6 M.S. theses, while serving on influential boards including the U.S. EPA Science Advisory Board and the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Sciences (CUAHSI).
