Jason L. DeGroff serves as a Distinguished Lecturer and Director of Bands at the University of New Haven within the Music Department of the College of Arts and Sciences. He directs the Chargers Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Concert Band while teaching Music Theory and Introduction to Music courses.
His research interests center on instrumental music pedagogy across educational levels, marching band show design, and brass performance techniques. With deep expertise in trumpet performance and conducting, his work bridges academic music education with competitive drum corps traditions.
DeGroff actively contributes to national music education through show design for the University of Massachusetts (Sudler Trophy-winning program) and visual instruction with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. His recent creative output includes a country album produced at Nashville's A Writer's Paradise Studios.
As an educator, he has extensive experience spanning elementary/middle school band direction, high school assistantship, and college-level leadership including reviving Central CT State University's marching band program.
His professional development includes performances in diverse ensembles under DCI Hall of Famer Thomas P. Hannum and studies with Walter Chesnut (trumpet) and Malcolm Rowell (conducting) during his graduate work at UMass Amherst.
