Jason Hutchens

Jason Hutchens is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP). He joined the faculty in Fall 2009 and served as department chair from 2012 to 2016. Currently, he teaches part-time via online courses.

Dr. Hutchens holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida, an M.A.Ed. in Instruction and Curriculum Design, a B.A. in Communication Studies, and an A.A.S. in Radio/TV Production from Virginia Western Community College.

His research interests focus on the societal and educational implications of social media. Creatively, he engages in documentary filmmaking, educational media development, digital/fine art photography, and graphic novel creation. These pursuits underscore his commitment to bridging communication studies with visual and technological mediums.

With over 20 years of professional experience, he previously managed internal communications at Darden Restaurants, overseeing multimedia projects for brands like Red Lobster and Olive Garden. His career spans broadcast, corporate, and academic environments, emphasizing video/multimedia production.
