Dr Jasmine Samvelyan is a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science at the School of Medicine, Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), and leads the Musculoskeletal and Developmental Biology Research Group within ARU's Medical Technology Research Centre (MTRC). Her research combines cellular, molecular, and in vivo approaches to study musculoskeletal ageing and its implications for conditions like osteoarthritis.
- Education: BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (University of Sheffield, 2013), MRes in Musculoskeletal Ageing (CIMA, 2014), PhD in Musculoskeletal Ageing (CIMA, 2018), Postgraduate Certificate in Learning, Teaching, and Assessment Practice in Higher Education (Edinburgh Napier University, 2020).
Her research focuses on endocrinology, musculoskeletal ageing, osteoarthritis, and the interplay between physical activity and energy metabolism. Recent work explores how hormonal and mechanical stimuli affect bone pathologies like osteoporosis, with a particular emphasis on growth plate dynamics, ciliary function, and metabolic interventions such as fasting to enhance bone regeneration.
Dr Samvelyan has received the New Investigator Award (2019) and held roles including a Medical Research Council-funded research fellowship at the University of Brighton. She actively supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students across biomedical disciplines and contributes to teaching in the MBChB and MSc programs.
