About
Janine Cossy is a distinguished Professor at ESPCI ParisTech (School of Industrial Physics and Chemistry) since 1990. She has held leadership roles, including Vice-President of Acanthe-Biotech since 2008 and Director of a CNRS Research Unity at ESPCI ParisTech since 1992. Her academic journey spans over four decades, with prior positions at the University of Champagne-Ardenne.
- 1974: Master in Chemistry, University Champagne-Ardenne, Reims (France)
- 1979: Ph.D. in Chemistry, University Champagne-Ardenne, Reims (France)
- 1980-1982: Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Wisconsin (USA) under Prof. Barry Trost
Cossy's research lies at the intersection of organometallic chemistry and synthetic methodologies. Her work emphasizes enantioselective reactions, catalysis, and the synthesis of natural and biologically active compounds. She has pioneered advancements in rhodium- and copper-catalyzed cycloisomerizations and cross-coupling reactions, contributing to heterocyclic scaffold development.
Her 10 most recent publications highlight expertise in asymmetric synthesis, transition metal catalysis, and bioactive molecule construction. Notable subfields include stereoselective cycloisomerization, diastereoselective gold-catalyzed reactions, and iron-catalyzed cross-coupling.
- 2011: Bristol Myers Squibb Award (USA)
- 2011: Boerhinger-Ingelheim Award (Canada)
- 2009: Le Bel Award (France)
- 1996: CNRS Silver Medal (France)
- 1987: CNRS Bronze Medal (France)
Cossy has advised numerous students and led CNRS research teams. She founded two companies, CDP-Innovation (2003) and Acanthe-Biotech (2008), and has served as associate editor for journals including Organic Letters and Arkivoc. Her consulting roles span pharmaceutical giants like Servier, Merck-Serono, and L'Oréal.
